Who will fight for the least of us?

That people have to live beneath or in close proximity to garbage is tragic — poverty, including extreme poverty, shouldn’t Be allowed on a planet that can spend millions of dollars for war weapons that, literally, go up in smoke. This is not how humanity should live or allow humanity to live. Yet, we see environmental garbage, waste and poisons being dump or allowed into communities too often — here and abroad.

These horrors happen suddenly, like this collapse, or over time, like Flint, Michigan. Either way, they built up to the crescendo of an exposure that brings attention from the world. The voiceless receive the worlds voice. They are visible and invisible. Corporations pay governments and electeds to legislate for lax laws and governments forgive, excuse or ignore the poor (the least of us).

Those who have greater voices and money get heard while the least of us bear the brunt of garbage being their neighbor, their water source and, yes, a burial ground. Poverty in the U.S. and elsewhere is considered “normal” or just how it is, by some. These are all atrocities against humanity that should be condemned and stopped!
