I rode Metro today and noticed a young man, sitting next to a young woman holding a baby. I noticed the young man had a court ordered ankle bracelet on. I don’t know what he did, but it was clear that a judge and system was holding him accountable for something. Maybe he was awaiting a trial or this was his sentence — innocent or guilty. This is the imperfect system we have which does, sometimes, rain on the just.
Whatever that young man did certainly pales in comparison to the recent antics of the ex U.S. President, recently convicted of 34 charges against the state of NY. That same defendant was also held liable for sexual assault (aka rape) & liable. He is also awaiting trials for myriad alleged acts against his former employer — America — which still provides him with insurance, a pension & round-the/clock security. Sadly, those trials have been delayed in Georgia and by a Florida judge (whom he appointed).
Our systems SHOULD serve AMERICA & AMERICANS equitably-not any one person or political party. So often, we see people who appear before judges who are questioned about the company they keep. We have seen his company and many have been tried and convicted while the ex has used his power & wealth (and race) to keep him with perpetual get out of jail scott free cards. And, his acts didn’t stop him from gaining more access to money and power.
Sadly, millions of people (smart; religious, powerful) have decided to defend a known pathological liar & multiply accused abuser. Many of them have perpetuated lies and created their own lies to disinform people who have trusted them to be honest. For money. For access. For power.
Let’s not forget the friends of the recently convicted, who have spent their time in courtrooms as well. Parents (and judges) often say be careful of the company you keep.
As it is often said, either we are a nation of laws or chaos. But, laws and the systems must be applied & accessed fairly. Truth must matter.
Meanwhile, some have decided that a Jerry Springer-guest style ex-president (worth billions?) is someone who deserves praise, YOUR money and your vote. We should all know better by now and expect/demand better for our nation.
On May 30, 2024, a jury of everyday citizens looked at all the factual evidence (not FAUX news) and decided that an unrepentant, manipulating, philandering, verbally abusive, corrupt; grifting, pathological liar is NOT:
This nation, courts & Congress has held political people accountable before (Nixon; Santos; Navarro; Bannon; Cohen; President Clinton…). The nation rejected the ex-president and his incompetent cabinet on Election Day in 2020. We see another facet of how the CONVICTex & friends used falsified records and other antics to deceive the American voter. was The young man with that ankle bracket deserves a fair trial, just like the ex-president. There must be only ONE system of justice — and elected officials do not get a pass.
Money, gender or race shouldn’t dictate who gets held accountable, convicted or acquitted in any democracy. Structural racism is real (no matter who denies it). Time will tell if equal rights under law come with an asterisk.
