Remember in November
Churches and other institutions are gearing up for back-to-school in very compassionate ways. Backpacks are being purchased/donated to help students whose families cannot afford supplies. Has anybody asked WHY these young people — and their schools — don’t have the supplies they need in the first place? Have bothered to ask those who you elect, “What about the children”? Policy priorities lead to devaluing budget cuts, which is part of the reason, schools, students and teachers are under-funded. And we had a year of a Congress that got paid to do nothing.
If you think that’s bad, this summer, children in Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont and Wyoming (all Republican-led states) will be denied access to a Biden/Harris administration program that provide stipends for them/their households during the summer months, when access to school lunch programs aren’t available. It appears that these politicians want to give the impression that the federal government is the cause of the poverty state officials legislate and their representatives in Congress perpetuate. #RememberInNovember
During the Covid pandemic, many communities realized that kids weren’t getting adequate nutrition when schools were closed. We say we value health and education. However, the lack of proper nourishment can adversely impact a child’s learning and wellness. Childhood poverty is the equivalent of impoverishing our future. #RememberInNovember
Iowa’s Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) stated that the, “state did not need the program, pointing to high rates of childhood obesity as a reason why they should not expand grocery benefits for children.” She also decided to steal the innocence of children by weakening child labor laws in her state (other states are following along). Why are these Republican governors & legislatures deny children a free (to them), federally-subsidized benefit? It doesn’t sound very pro-life to deny people access to food and reduce protections for kids.
We say we love our kids and value their future, but that’s not evidenced legislation we approve as law (and legislators) we vote for (or accept without question). #RememberInNovember
Yes, elected representatives, elected to serve the residents of multiple states (and congress), thinks that DENYING children access to food will alleviate childhood obesity. Poverty isn’t new — neither is the the way some legislate against solutions. Some politicians (city; state; federal) — employed by US — will let our kids starve, to avoid giving the appearance of supporting the policies of a politicial opponent.
