For No Good Reason…

Ever heard a story or witness an act committed by someone or some organization that was just wrong and without rationale or reason? Well, “for no good reason” seems to be the standard operating procedure for this administration. What “good reason” is there for the president, who has offered no stance on HIV/AIDS work, except to fire remaining members of the UNPAID HIV/AIDS advisory group. Several members already resigned earlier this year because they saw no strategy coming from this administration. They took a stand to protect this important work.

One of the few good things President George Bush is credited with was his global HIV/AIDS commitment. President Barack Obama continued and expanded the work, which helped to keep the U.S. as a credible & viable partner on the world stage in the fight against HIV/AIDS. So, in the ongoing commitment to erase the #ObamaLegacy, this administration rather continue its chipping away at important & good work.

Finding a cure for HIV/AIDS should be a bipartisan no-brainer. 45 states that he is exploring new people to replace the current experts. But, what is the plan to move PACHA Presidential Advisory Council for HIV/AIDS forward — is there one? Are there better experts that he knows about — like the experts he’s selected for cabinet-level roles, like Dr. Tom Price? Or our U.N. representative Gov. Nikki Haley (check out her HIV/AIDS work in South Carolina, btw)? Or Gen. Mike Flynn? Maybe he’ll lend his expert planning skills like he’s led for the Caribbean hurricane relief? Perhaps, he’ll find people who embrace HIV/AIDs work like those he seeks for climate change work? 45 has no plan. At.All. He likes to lie to fix things — denial makes it so, right? His articulated influence with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is to ban words, like transgender. Their funding is allocated by those who just gave billions to corporations at the expense of everyday citizens and our health. SMH!

This is why respected organizations like Us Helping Us, People into Living — that need our support — & funders like the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, AmFAR — The Foundation for AIDS Research, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and networks like Funders Concerned about AIDS continue this fight — even when if/when our government fails to recognize who the real enemy is in this battle. We need to remain vigilant as well by lending our collective time, talent treasure and testimonies to improving, not dividing this world.

This administration’s is consistent on one thing, though. 45/they have a pattern of stepping away from global work — trade; climate; Middle East peace; United Nations. HIV/AIDS Work is a global & nonpartisan issue and advances cannot be wasted by removing subject matter experts from key roles. Given the passion of these leaders, other organizations & nations who want success in this fight will continue the work, so all is not lost.

More anger-making headlines are surely to come in 2018, but this latest affront to our nations (and world’s) health is especially egregious. This president continues to create and advance an abysmally divisive and dangerous presidency — for NO good reason.

People used to look to us for leadership on key issues — 45 has forced them to look elsewhere, and laugh at us in the process. Let’s be clear, the Russian probe isn’t what is making us look bad. The more he speaks, the world sees how irrational and mentally twisted he really is— and that should trouble all of us. His thought process is viewed from someone looking through orange-colored glasses — and that should even trouble his 37% fan-base (84–99% of his party. And who are these people — he’s done nothing for you — or the rest of us! His party buddy, Marco Rubio, reluctantly admits that the TaxScam was for corporations — corporations still aren’t people.

The world doesn’t like us anymore and his team (Sec of State Tillerson & UN’s Haley) isn’t helping. And, as Republiteas fiddle, true Americans are burning mad. We will be voting in 2018 - in record numbers - to put this fire out. We need to make sure Russia (and others) don’t ever interfere with fair and untainted elections ever again. That should be a bipartisan goal, too. #HIVAIDSisNonpartisan

Take 2 to 5 minutes for a glimpse of what I think about issues of the day. Nonpartisan, yet, some might not agree. Just don’t be disagreeable. TW: @congosdad
